This specimen was lot 31581 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $2,520. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Charles II gold Guinea 1679 XF45 NGC. A lustrous and appealing Guinea, exhibiting shallow wear to the surfaces commensurate with its grade but otherwise solidly detailed and satisfying overall. Struck slightly off-center, giving a pleasing crescent of dentils from 10 until 6 o'clock on the obverse. With an old dealer's ticket dated the 17th January 1952, when this piece sold for £5. From the Collection of a Berkshire Gentleman." This type was struck 1672-84. There is a similar type (KM 440.2) struck during the same years with an elephant and castle added below the king's bust (Fr-289); this marked gold obtained from Africa.
