Great Britain 1679 farthing

Stack's Bowers November 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 77431

This specimen was lot 77431 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $216. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing (1/4 Penny), 1679. London Mint. Charles II. PCGS EF-45." This type was struck 1672-75 and 1679 with the 1679 as the scarcest date. Numista notes that the planchets were made in Sweden. A later attempt to strike farthings in tin was an ignominious flop.
