Sincona sale 79, lot 1114

This specimen was lot 1114 in Sincona sale 79 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 1,350 CHF (about US$1,618 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, Charles I. 1625-1649. Double crown or 1/2 Unite of 10 shillings n. d. (1625-1626), Tower Mint under the King. Group B. Second bust, bust 2, in ruff, armour and mantle. Mintmark cross ca[lva]ry. NGC AU Details. Slightly bent." Charles abandoned the laurel coinage of the latter part of James's reign and reverted to the old gold crown (five shillings), double crown (10 shillings) and unite (20 shillings).
