Great Britain (1625-29) penny

Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 37051

This specimen was lot 37051 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $105. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, ND (1625-29). London Mint; mm: Two Pellets. Charles I. PCGS AU-50. From the Richard August Collection." This silver penny was struck by Charles I at the beginning of his reign. It was an inconveniently small coin but would not be converted to copper until the end of the eighteenth century.
