Sincona sale 79, lot 1108

This specimen was lot 1108 in Sincona sale 79 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 2,800 CHF (about US$3,356 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, James I. 1603-1625. 1/2 Laurel n. d. (1624-1625), Tower Mint. Third coinage. First laureate bust. Mintmark trefoil. NGC MS61. Extraordinary condition." The half laurel, introduced late in the reign of James I, was worth ten shillings, equal to the old double crown. With the accession of James I we drop "England" as the country name and adopt the current "Great Britain."
