This specimen was lot 72280 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "GIBRALTAR. Sovereign, 1989. Surrey (Pobjoy) Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Mintage: 300. A flawless specimen, this most impressive and wholesome piece yields good luster and strong details, with limited instances of handling across the surfaces." The semi-autonomous colony of Gibraltar has been captured by the Pobjoy Mint and used as a conduit for the issue of hundreds of NCLT on serious and frivolous topics.
