This specimen was lot 72282 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "GIBRALTAR. 1/4 Sovereign, 1989. Surrey (Pobjoy) Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Mintage: 300. A beautiful 1/4 Sovereign, this handsome and flawless example delivers rich details and stunning ultra cameo appearance." The semi-autonomous colony of Gibraltar has been captured by the Pobjoy Mint and used as a conduit for the issue of hundreds of NCLT on serious and frivolous topics.
