This specimen was lot 72473 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Third Reich. 50 Pfennig, 1942-B. Vienna Mint. ANACS PROOF-63 Cameo. A delightful proof, offering rich brilliance and an alluring, lightly frosted nature to the devices." This type was struck 1939-44. After the anschluss of 1938, the Vienna mint was operated by the Nazis to strike German coins.
Recorded mintage: 2,876,000, a somewhat better date.
Specification: 1.35 g, aluminum, 22.7 mm diameter.
