This specimen was lot 73835 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. 50 Pfennig, 1939-A. Berlin Mint. NGC MS-65. A well struck example for this last year issue for the type. Fully argent with cartwheel luster and a great deal of details." This type was struck 1938-39 at seven mints (A, B, D, E, F, G, J). This type is rather scarce, considering the substantial mintage, suggesting that it was likely melted to release nickel for the Nazi war machine. The denomination was converted to aluminum during 1939 (KM 96).

Recorded mintage: 15,037,000.

Specification: 3.5 g, nickel, 20 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 95.
