This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1940-44 during the war years of the Nazi regime in Germany. The "A" mintmark is for the Berlin mint. For a race of Aryan supermen, the Nazis were remarkably unimaginative coin designers and this type is quite dull. It replaces by an aluminum bronze type (KM 91) of 1936-39. This specimen was part of lot 22755 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), which sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Third Reich Certified Minor Coinage, 1937-41. KM-89, 90, 91, & 100; J-361, 362, 363, & 370. Reichspfennig (3), 2 Reichspfennig (5), and 5 Reichspfennig (2). 10 pieces in lot. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS."

Recorded mintage: 246,216,000, common in all grades.

Specification: 2.50 g, zinc, 19 mm diameter.
