Steve Album sale 51, lot 1037

This specimen was lot 1037 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY: Third Reich, AR 5 reichsmark, 1935-F, Potsdam Garrison Church, a wonderful proof quality example! PCGS graded Proof 64 DCAM, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This type of 1934-35 makes no reference to the newly installed Nazi regime. Though the size of a half dollar, its higher fineness meant that it contained the same amount of silver as the larger five mark of the Weimar Republic such as the Goethe commemorative (Dav-974).

Recorded mintage: 2,177,000.

Specification: 13.88 g, 0.900 fine silver, 29 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-83, Y-85, J-357.
