Germany 1934-J 5 mark KM-82

from the Stacks Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 22481

This specimen was lot 22481 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $960. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. 5 Mark, 1934-J. PCGS PROOF-65 Secure Holder. Struck to commemorate the 1st anniversary of Nazi rule. Deep reflectivity exists in the fields with a touch of milky tone over both sides." This type, the first overtly Nazi coin, was struck at all six mints (A, D, E, F, G, J) and was accompanied by a two mark. This specimen is from Hamburg.

Recorded mintage: 327,000.

Specification: 13.88 g, 0.900 fine silver, 29 mm diameter.
