This specimen was lot 8625 in Ponterio sale 151 (Baltimore, November 2009), where it sold for $2,990. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Genoa. 48 Lire, 1792. Light adjustment marks, attractive ALMOST UNCIRCULATED." Despite this, the image is clearly of a coin dated 1793. The piece is accompanied by a gold 96 lire (KM 251) which the SCWC notes as being rather more available. Genoa was occupied by Napoleon in 1798 and made into the puppet Ligurian Republic. Genoa never recovered its independence; in 1815 it was annexed by the kingdom of Sardinia and is now part of Italy.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 12.60 g, .909 fine gold, 28 mm diameter, decorated edge.

Catalog reference: Fr-445; KM A245, Mont-30.
