Goldberg sale 109, lot 2651

This specimen was lot 2651 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Italian States: Genoa. 8 Denari, 1793. Billon. Madonna and child. PCGS graded MS-64." This is a seldom seen type struck 1793-95 in the last years of the republic. Genoa was occupied by Napoleon and converted into the Ligurian Republic; she never recovered her independence. In 1815, Metternich awarded Genoa to Sardinia and followed her into the kingdom of Italy during the unification of 1860-61.
