Geneva 1646-B 4 pistolets Fr-248
This specimen was lot 1175 in Sincona Auction 100 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 17,000 CHF (about US$25,623 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, Quadruple 1646, Genf. (Rosette) GENEVA (Rosette) CIVITAS (Rosette) 1646 (Rosette) Der doppelköpfige, gekrönte Reichsadler mit dem Wappenschild auf der Brust. Rv. (Rosette) POST (Rosette) TENEBRAS (Rosette) LVX (Rosette) Sonne mit Strahlen, im Zentrum Christusmonogramm, oben das Münzzeichen B für den Münzmeister Augustin Baccuet. Äusserst selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion UBS Gold & Numismatik 82, Zürich, Januar 2009, Los 2680. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, quadruple d'or of 1646, Geneva mint. Obverse: crowned double headed eagle with arms on its breast; reverse: sunburst with the Christ monogram in the center, mintmaster's initial "B" at the top. Extremely rare, Very Fine-Extremely Fine.)"
This rare issue is listed for 1635-38, 1641-42. It was equal to four écus pistolet. Varieties exist in the number of sun rays; this example has twelve.
