Geneva 1647-G ducat Fr-257
This specimen was lot 32330 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $24,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Switzerland: Geneva. Canton gold Ducat 1647-G UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC. Struck on a slightly wavy flan, with some hairlines indicative of past cleaning, yet the surfaces of this Genevan Ducat are still highly lustrous, its detail almost fully struck-up and hardly worn--clearly an UNC piece with strong visual allure. This is the sole certified example of this rarity, with auction records showing no other specimens except for this present offering selling within the last 20 years. As such, it is reasonable to assume that this piece may be the only example available to collectors. We consequently imagine that its presence at auction will elicit a very strong response from bidders, and that it will find its place in a top-tier collection of Swiss gold." This type is mentioned for various dates 1644-51 but none are common.
