Sincona sale 25, lot 2073

This specimen was lot 2073 in Sincona sale 25 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 15,000 CHF (about US$18,528 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Ducat 1644. Double eagle with the Geneva arms on breast. Above, a crown. Rev. Value and date in a decorated square. Of great rarity. Extremely fine. The reverse strongly resembles the Dutch ducats, whose reverse bear a similar configuration."

This type is mentioned for various dates 1644-57 but none are common.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.46 g.
