Sincona sale 95, lot 4242

This specimen was lot 4242 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 12,000 CHF (about US$16,632 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, Quadruple 1641, Genf. Mzz. S - D. (Rosette) GENEVA· CIVITAS· I641 (Rosette). Der doppelköpfige, gekrönte Reichsadler mit dem Wappenschild auf der Brust. Rv. POST· TENEBRAS· LVX ·S (Rosette) D. Sonne mit Strahlen, im Zentrum Christusmonogramm. Äusserst selten. Sehr schön. Schrötlingsfehler. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, Geneva mint, mintmark SD. Obverse: crowned, double-headed imperial eagle with cantonal arms on its breast. Reverse: POST· TENEBRAS· LVX ·S (rosette) D. Sun with rays, Christ monogram in the center. Extremely rare, Very Fine, Flan flaw.)"

This type was struck 1635-38 and 1641-42. It was equal to four écus pistolet.
