Sincona sale 6, lot 2426

This specimen was lot 2426 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$831 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ, Sammlung Dr. Charles Froidevaux Genf Taler 1622-RG. Rundes Stadtwappen unter strahlender Sonne mit Christusmonogramm. Rv. Gekrönter Doppeladler. Gutes sehr schön. (Canton of Geneva, thaler of 1622. Obverse: city arms, Christ monogram in sunburst above; reverse: crowned double-headed eagle, good very fine.)"

This thaler was issued in Geneva 1620-59 but only the 1622 and 1623 are reasonably available. It was accompanied by quarter and half thalers.

Specification: 28 g, silver, 40 mm diameter, this specimen is 28,57 g.
