Sincona sale 102, lot 5212

This specimen was lot 5212 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$181 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 4 Deniers 1617, Genf. Selten. Schön-sehr schön. Leicht korrodiert. (Switzerland, city and canton of Geneva, Rare, Fine-Very Fine, Slightly corroded.)"

This is the only time this denomination was issued. An eight deniers also exists. These low denomination coins were often crudely made on bad planchets. One thaler was 96 sols and one sol was twelve deniers.

Specification: 0.76 g, billon, 16 mm diameter, this specimen 0.59 g.
