Sincona sale 97, lot 3236

This specimen was lot 3236 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$145 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 2 Quarts (1/2 Sol oder 6 Deniers) 1610 D, Genf. Kleine Schrötlingsfehler. Fast vorzüglich. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, two quarts or half sol or six deniers of 1610, Geneva mint. Minor planchet flaws, About Extremely Fine, Extraordinary condition.)"

This type was struck 1603-04, 1610-20, 1645-55, 1677-78, 1687-88. These low denomination coins were often crudely made on bad planchets. The SCWC lists this date with mintmark C.

Specifications: 0.8 g, billon, 16 mm diameter, this specimen 0.92 g.
