Sincona sale 95, lot 4228

This specimen was lot 4228 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 225 CHF (about US$312 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 2 Quarts (1/2 Sol oder 6 Deniers) 1599, Genf. Mzz. G. Selten. Sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, Geneva mint, mintmark G. Rare, Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1554-57 and 1597-99. The seventeenth century issues are listed in the SCWC as six deniers. One thaler was 96 sols and one sol was four quarts.

Record mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.92 g, billon, 18 mm diameter, this specimen 0.86 g.
