Sincona sale 102, lot 5185

This specimen was lot 5185 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$211 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 2 Quarts (1/2 Sol oder 6 Deniers) 1555, Genf. Mzz. B. Selten. Schön. (Switzerland, city and canton of Geneva, two quarts or half sol or six deniers of 1555, Geneva mint. Rare, Fine.)"

The mintmark at the top of the reverse is easy to miss as it is weakly struck. Mintmark "G" also exists for this date. Numista lists this type for 1554-57 and 1597-99. One thaler was 96 sols and one sol was four quarts.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.92 g, billon, 18 mm diameter, this specimen 0.99 g.
