Geneva 1560-P quart

Sincona sale 95, lot 4209

This specimen was lot 4209 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$589 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, Quart 1560, Genf. Mzz. P. Von grosser Seltenheit. Fast sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, quart of 1560, Geneva mint, mintmark P. Of high rarity, About Very Fine.)"

This type was struck intermittently 1535, 1551-54, 1557, 1560-62, 1589-98. Numista does not mention the mintmark clearly visible here. One thaler was 96 sols and one sol was four quarts.

Record mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.83 g, billon, 17 mm diameter, this specimen 0.64 g.
