Gambia 1971 50 bututs

This specimen was issued by Gambia in 1971 only. Formerly a British colony embedded in Senegal, a series of sterling coinage was issued for it for one year only in 1966. This was replaced by decimal coinage in 1971, with 100 bututs = 1 dalasis. The next fifty bututs was issued for circulation in 1998.

Recorded mintage: 1,700,000 + 32,000 proofs.

Specification: 11.30 g, copper-nickel, 28.5 mm diameter (same module as a British ten pence of 1968-92).
