This specimen was issued by Gambia in 1971 only. Formerly a British colony embedded in Senegal, a series of sterling coinage was issued for it for one year only in 1966. This was replaced by decimal coinage in 1971, with 100 bututs = 1 dalasis.

Recorded mintage: 3,040,000 plus 25,000 proofs.

Specification: 5.65 g, copper-nickel, 23.6 mm diameter.
