Fulda 1779 ducat Fr-1062
This specimen was lot 1909 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €3,600 (about US$5,010 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FULDA, ABTEI, SEIT 1752 BISTUM, Heinrich VIII. von Bibra, 1759-1788. Dukat 1779, auf sein 50jähriges Priesterjubiläum. GOLD. RR Vorzüglich/vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, bishopric of Fulda, Henry VIII of Bibra, 1759-88, ducat of 1779, on the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination. Rare, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
Heinrich VIII, bishop of Fulda 1759-88, does not seem to have held any other clerical titles, unusual as most of his contemporaries were committed pluralists. The bishop marked his anniversary with three different ducats: KM 140 (bust obverse/arms reverse), KM 141 (bust obverse/inscription reverse, shown here) and KM 142 (arms obverse/inscription reverse).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.50 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,47 g.
