Fulda 1788 20 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 32842 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $348. The catalog description[1] noted, "Fulda. Heinrich VIII 20 Kreuzer 1788 MS64 NGC. A beautiful minor with near-gem, prooflike luster to the fields, disclosing soft sun-yellow color tinged with iridescent flares and plenty of die polish lines. From the Engelen Collection of World Coinage." This type is somewhat scarce. It was issued, along with a thaler (Dav-2263), to honor the recently deceased bishop, Heinrich VIII. The denomination is not stated but the weight ("LX EINE FEINE MARCK") indicates that it is one-sixth of a thaler. All of the ecclesiastical states were mediatized by Napoleon and handed over to his allies in 1800-06.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
