Sedwick sale 10, lot 1210

This specimen was lot 1210 in Sedwick sale 10 (Winter Park, FL, October 2011), where it sold for $661.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Friesland, United Netherlands, 1/2 'lion' daalder, no date (1619), encapsulated NGC VF 30. Lightly rainbow-toned all over, unaligned axes." This type, half a lion dollar, is listed for 1601-63. It was tariffed at 24 stuivers as was the half riksdaalder, which weighed 14.51 g, 0.885 fine silver and the half silver ducat, which weighed 14.12 g, .873 fine. Other silver coins included two, six, seven, ten, fourteen, twenty-eight and thirty stuiver pieces.
