This specimen was lot 2601 in UBS sale 83 (Zürich, September 2009) where it sold for CHF 1300 (about US$1495 including buyer's fee). The catalog description noted, "4 Franken 1813. FDC," (uncirculated). The coinage of the canton of Fribourg is much scantier than most of the other cantons and this rare issue is no exception. Coinage ceased altogether in 1831 with an issue of 5 rappen. At this time, 10 rappen = 1 batzen and 10 batzen = 1 frank and 4 franken = 1 thaler.
Recorded mintage: 2,429.
Specification: silver, this specimen 29,88 g.
