Fribourg 1715 2/3 haller
This specimen was lot 3159 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$725 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Freiburg/Fribourg, Stadt und Kanton, 2/3 Haller 1715, Freiburg. Einseitig. Kleines, feines Ankerkreuz. (F)RIBOVRG . (I)7I5. Von grösster Seltenheit. Schön-sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Fribourg, 2/3 haller of 1715, Fribourg mint, uniface. Obverse: small, thin anchor cross and date. Of the highest rarity, Fine-Very Fine.)
Exemplar der Studie zu Halbbatzen, Schillingen, Kreuzer, Vierer und 2/3 Haller von Freiburg i. Üe./Fribourg. Die Jahreszahl wurde damals allerdings nicht erkannt. Neben der kleinen Zusammenfassung von E. Tobler (siehe Literaturzitat) existiert nur die Arbeit von J. Bujard und A.-F. Auberson: L'ancienne église Saint-Michel de Heitenried, une fondation d'époque romane en Singine. Archéologie fribourgeoise 30, Fribourg 2023, S. 115-123. In dieser Kirche wurden 117 Exemplare gefunden. Zusammen mit den 142 Stücken, welche im Musée d'art et d'histoire liegen, konnten, neben den Münzen ohne Jahreszahl, folgende existierenden Jahrgänge identifiziert werden: 1735, 1737, 1738, 1741, 1745, 1749, 1751, 1752 und 1763. Unser Exemplar von 1715 ergänzt diese Liste um eine weitere Variante. (A specimen of the study collection of half-batzen, shillings, kreuzers, vierer, and 2/3 hallers from Freiburg/Fribourg. The date, however, was not recognized at the time. Besides the brief summary by E. Tobler (see bibliography), only the work by J. Bujard and A.-F. Auberson exists: L'ancienne église Saint-Michel de Heitenried, une romane époque en Singine. Archéologie fribourgeoise 30, Fribourg 2023, pp. 115-123. 117 specimens were found in this church. Together with the 142 pieces in the Musée d'art et d'histoire, the following existing years could be identified, in addition to the coins without date: 1735, 1737, 1738, 1741, 1745, 1749, 1751, 1752 and 1763. Our example from 1715 adds another variant to this list.)"
The SCWC calls this coin a "denier" and mentions only 1735, 1745, 1751, 1752 and 1763. One thaler was 224 of these coins.
