French Indochina 1928-A piastre

This specimen was lot 45958 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH INDO-CHINA. Piastre, 1928-A. Paris Mint. PCGS MS-62+." This piastre is one of a type issued for French Indo-China during 1895-1928. Piastres issued 1895 and before were 27.21 grams and are quite a bit scarcer. The coin was intended to compete with various trade dollars from the Straits Settlements, India, Mexico and the United States. The subsequent issue of 1931 (KM 19) was only 20 g.
