This specimen was lot 74528 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Frankfurt. Gulden, 1840. Free City. PCGS MS-63. A remarkably struck Gulden with almost prooflike fields and rich sunset toning on both sides. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This type was struck 1838-41 and is not common although this example realized one-sixth of the catalog value. Frankfurt was annexed to Prussia in 1866 and her coinage ended.
