Frankfurt 1717-IIF 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 33675 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $3,960. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Frankfurt. Free City "Reformation" 1/2 Taler 1717-IIF MS64 PCGS. Struck in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, with a design that was also adopted for a number of other denominations in both gold and silver. This is the first example of the 1/2 Taler denomination that we have encountered, and a highly gratifying representative thereof, featuring gleaming underlying luster and a balanced steel patina yielding notes of iridescence." This commemorative half thaler was accompanied by an eighth thaler (KM 180), thaler (Dav-2218) and a ducat (Fr-995).
