This specimen was lot 46422 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Francs, 1849-BB. Strasbourg Mint. PCGS AU-58. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This type was struck 1848-49 for the second republic of France after Louis Philippe was overthrown. The design was switched to the Cérès head midway thru 1849 and struck in that form until 1851.
Recorded mintage: 2,594,259, a fairly common date, plus 916,369 of the Céres head.
Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, after a design by Augustin Dupré (1748-1833).
