CNG Lissner sale, lot 391

This specimen was lot 391 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $847. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE, Royal (Restored). Louis Philippe. 1830-1848. AR Franc. Lille mint; différents: caduceus and star. Nicolas-Pierre Tiolier, engraver general. Alexandre Beaussier, director. Dated 1831 W. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Choice lustrous BU with just a touch of patina. Very nice specimen and very pleasing to the eye. Purchased from Richard Margolis, June 1975." This issue, from the Lille mint, is from a type struck in France 1831 only. This design, by Tiolier, was replaced by the Domard bust used 1832-48. It was demonetized in 1869. A complete set of this type comprises twelve mintmarks, many very rare. This date is common for the type but triple the Domard type.
