This issue, from the Bordeaux mint, is from a type struck in France 1831 only. This design, by Tiolier, was replaced by the Domard bust used 1832-48. It was demonetized in 1869. A complete set of this type comprises twelve mintmarks, many very rare.

Recorded mintage: 52,590, a scarce date.

Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge. Designed by Nicolas-Pierre Tiolier.
