France 1827-D 1/2 franc
This specimen was lot 1569 in Jean Elsen sale 153 (Brussels, December 2022), where it sold for €160 (about US$202 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Charles X (1824-1830), AR 1/2 franc, 1827 D, Lyon. Très rare. Beau. (kingdom of France, Charles X, 1824-30, silver half franc of 1827, Lyon mint. Very rare, Fine.)"
This dime-sized coin was struck at Bordeaux under the régime of king Charles X. It is a scarce date of a type struck 1825-30. It was demonetized in 1869. Le Franc[2] notes 54 dates for the type, some very rare. This date is scarce and is not catalogued above Very Fine.
