France 1822-B 5 francs
This specimen was lot 1303 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €110 (about US$157 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Louis XVIII, seconde restauration (1815-1824), AR 5 francs, 1822B, Rouen. Nettoyé. presque Superbe. (kingdom of France, Louis XVIII, second restoration, 1815-24, silver five francs of 1822, Rouen mint. Cleaned, about Extremely Fine.)"
Many of the 96 dates of this type struck for France 1816-24 are known from a handful (<10) of examples. The type is not difficult to find but is expensive in high grade. This product of the Rouen mint is an uncommon date.
