France 1822-A 5 francs
This specimen was lot 31273 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $223.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XVIII 5 Francs 1822-A, UNC Details (Spot Removals) NGC. Nicely toned with deep gray and blue-green highlights. The patina on the obverse is somewhat dappled." Many of the 96 dates of this type are known from a handful (<10) of examples. The type is not difficult to find but is expensive in high grade. This is the highest mintage date between 1811 and 1848.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by Auguste François Michaut, 1786-1879.
