This specimen was lot 2256 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 700 (about US$922 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"40 Francs 1816. Paris Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Louis XVIII, forty francs of 1816, Paris mint. Choice extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1816-24 and most of the fourteen known dates are rare. This is a product of the Paris mint. This one is one of the common dates 1816-A, 1817-A and 1818-W.

Specification: 12.90 g, 0.900 fine gold, 26 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM, designed by Auguste-François Michaut, this specimen 12.91 g.
