Goldberg sale 128, lot 1285
G128-1285r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1285 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis d'or aux lunettes du Bearn, 1731-Cow (Pau). Louis XV. PCGS graded Extremely Fine Detail (Mount Removed)." The louis d'or aux lunettes was introduced in 1726 and was struck at all the mints until 1740. This product of the Pau mint is rare, as are all of the dates from that mint. Later in the century, as trade with Spain increased, the Pau mint became more active.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare date[2].

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J. C. Röettiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 800a, Dr/2 № 540a, Fr-461; Gad-340a (listed as a date not confirmed); KM-490.
