This specimen was lot 22289 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu, 1728-H. La Rochelle Mint. Louis XV (1715-74). PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder. Sharply struck with bold detail, pleasantly toned with nice luster. Quite attractive." Droulers reports 1726-1740 from this mint. The mint closed in the nineteenth century. The type was struck 1726-40 during the reign of Louis XV; La Rochelle struck the type without interruption and many dates are common. This coin was part of the great coinage reform of Cardinal Fleury which finally terminated the manipulations which had disrupted the economy since the 1690's.

Specification: 29.49 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39-41 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.
