Sincona sale 46, lot 351

This specimen was lot 351 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 900 CHF (about US$1,080 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Frankreich, Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Louis dor au soleil 1710 A, Paris. Sehr schön. Leichte Fassungsspuren. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, louis d'or of the sunburst of 1710, Paris mint. Very fine, Minor traces of mounting.)"

This louis d'or au soleil was struck 1709-15 in some numbers. It was the last louis of Louis XIV. The 1710-A is a common date for the type.

Reported Mintage: 417,109.

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24-26 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J. Röettiers; this specimen 8.07 g.
