France 1587-A ecu d'or
This specimen was lot 332 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$960 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Frankreich, Henri III. 1574-1589. Ecu dor 1587, Paris. Fast vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Henry III, 1574-89, écu d'or of 1587, Paris mint. About extremely fine.)"
This coin is called the écu d'or au soleil in Duplessy with a face value of sixty sols tournois and is noted with many variations in obverse and reverse legends. On this one, the obverse legend starts at the bottom by the mintmark. The date is at the bottom of the obverse.
