This specimen was lot 30742 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "François I gold Ecu d'or á la croisette (1515-1547)-K AU55 NGC, Bordeaux mint. Note the small cross at the center of the reverse. Minimal wear for the issue, and a premium example of this scarcer offering." This type was struck in France after the reform of 1540 instituted letter mintmarks but before coinage was routinely dated. Friedberg also mentions a demi-écu d'or à la croisette. This coin had a face value of 45 sols tournois.
