France (1461-78) hardi

Goldberg sale 128, lot 1714

This specimen was lot 1714 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $48. The catalog description^[1] noted, "France. Hardi, undated. Billon. Louis XI, 1461-1483. The King standing facing, half-length, crowned, holding a sword. Reverse: Cross with two lilies and two crowns in angles. PCGS graded Very Fine Detail (Environmental Damage)." This type was struck at Bordeaux only. It had a face value of three deniers tournois, a denomination later taken over by the liard. There was a second emission in 1478.
