This specimen was lot 31788 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $3,290. The catalog description[1] noted, "Flanders. Philip IV of Spain gold Souverain d'or 1657 MS62 NGC, Bruges mint. An outstanding example with absolutely perfect golden surfaces and incredibly sharp definition throughout. A conditional rarity and currently the only graded example from NGC." This type is listed for Flanders for 1625-64. Similar lions d'or were struck in Brabant and Tournai.

Recorded mintage: 27,000 for 1656-58.

Specification: 5.54 g, .947 fine gold.
