Brabant 1657(h) souverain d'or Fr-107
This specimen was lot 805 in Jean Elsen sale 159 (Brussels, June 2024), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,413 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe IV (1621-1665), AV souverain (lion d'or), 1657, Anvers. D/ Lion deb. à g., couronné, brandissant une épée, la patte posée sur un globe placé sur un socle. R/ Ecu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. Légère double frappe. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Philip IV, 1621-65, gold souverain or lion of 1657, Antwerp mint. Obverse: crowned lion left, brandishing a sword, one paw on a globe; reverse: crowned arms, order chain around. Slightly double struck, very fine.)"
This type is listed for Antwerp (shown here) and Brussels (angel face mintmark, Fr-108) for 1648-65. Similar lions d'or were struck in Flanders and Tournai.
