Jean Elsen sale 149, lot 1016

This specimen was lot 1016 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €140 (about US$190 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Albrecht en Isabella (1598-1621), AR pauwenschelling, z.j. (1612-1621), Brugge. Vz/ Gekroonde pauw met het wapenschild Oostenrijk-Bourgondië op de borst. Kz/ Gekroond wapenschild op stokkenkruis. Zeer Fraai à Prachtig. (county of Flanders, Albert and Isabella, 1598-621, undated silver peacock shilling, Bruges mint. Obverse: crowned peacock supporting the arms of Austria-Burgundy on its breast; reverse: crowned arms over a Burgundian cross. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck at Bois-le-Duc (1617 only), Brussels (1618-21 and ND) and Antwerp (1620-21 and ND) as well as Bruges (1619-21 and ND, shown here). It is described in the SCWC as having an eagle on the obverse but peacock is clearly the correct bird.
